Basketball ACT has announced a series of changes to be introduced for local Junior Competitions aimed at enhancing experiences and opportunities to junior basketballers. The changes for 2024/2025 come after a review of competition formats and in consultation with Member Clubs and stakeholders.   

With a realignment of competitions through the extension of the summer competitions, which will run from October 2024 to March 2025. Changes to the Junior competitions in the summer season will see:

  • Junior Open – open to Member Club teams and aimed at players who would normally compete in the Basketball ACT’s Molten Junior Premier League (JPL) competition.
  • Junior Summer – aimed at all junior age groups (u10s-u19s) and open to Member Club teams.

With the realignment of the Junior Summer and Winter Competitions it is import for the basketball community to be aware of the following information:

  • All Juniors players will now age up at the start of the Summer Competition.
    • This is to assist Basketball ACT and Member Clubs with the transition of teams and players from the summer to winter competitions. 
    • 2024/2025 Summer Age Groups will be:

  • Players and Parents can choose if they play in one season or both seasons of basketball a year.
  • All Junior Basketball Competitions across summer and winter will now be Member Club competitions only.
    • Junior players and parents who are keen to play with their friends across Clubs or in a different format are encouraged to consider the 3×3 Basketball tournaments. Find out more about 3×3 Basketball HERE
  • Teams who register for the Junior Open competition will be locked in for the entire season, with no grading out of this competition. 
  • Junior Summer will run from October 2024 through to March 2025
    • Consisting of 12 competition rounds, Semi Finals and Grand Finals
    • U10’s will finish after Round 12
  • Junior Open will run from October 2024 through to February 2025
    • Consisting of 10 competition rounds, Semi Finals, Playoffs and Grand Finals
    • The Junior Open competition will be utilised as grading for the Molten Junior Premier League (JPL) competition the following winter season.

The 2024/2025 Summer season game times will be played based on the following:
