In the world of professional sports, the spotlight is often on the players, coaches, and fans. However, it’s the officials who work tirelessly behind the scenes that help ensure the game runs smoothly, fairly, and with integrity. Jack Taylor has been officiating since 2001 and has worked his way through the ACT Junior Referee Pathway. Taylor has achieved a significant milestone in officiating his 100th WNBL game, when the UC Capitals took on the Perth Lynx.

Taylor is entering his 10th season as a WNBL referee and his 100th game serves as a powerful reminder of the critical role officials play in the success of any sports league, and it’s a celebration of his dedication to the WNBL and the broader basketball community. Taylor continues to educate junior referees throughout the pathway and when asked what piece of advice he has for aspiring referees, he responded “Refereeing is a skill that requires practice and patience, and you’ll improve over time. Keep working your craft, know your rules, focus on communication and always have a growth mindset”.

When asked what goals Taylor has for officiating this season and beyond, he responds “This season is about maintaining consistency of performance in the WNBL, establish consistency of performance in the NBL. Internationally with FIBA the big picture is to work a World Cup / Olympics”. We look forward to watching what Jack Taylor achieves over the coming years on court.
