Basketball ACT to host inaugural Women’s Leadership Program Breakfast
By BACT Media Unit – 7 May 2024
With an increasing number of females taking on coaching roles at basketball clubs throughout the region, Basketball ACT is set to host their inaugural Women’s Leadership Breakfast on Monday 27 May 2024.
The breakfast, to be held at Abode Hotel Belconnen, will be the first opportunity to bring together female coaches from across the community, and recognise their contribution to our game. The Women’s Leadership Breakfast will also allow attendees to network with coaching colleagues, as well as hear from newly appointed BA Centre of Excellence (COE) Assistant Coach, Mel Downer and Australian Gliders Assistant Coach Lauren Robinson.
Basketball ACT’s Head of High Performance and Coach Development, Leonard King, is excited about the opportunities to build the Women’s Leadership Program through events like the upcoming breakfast, as well as more targeted and focussed avenues to develop and grow coaching skills, saying “Basketball ACT is really keen to identify obstacles that prevent our female coaches from achieving their goals, and formulate a collaborative and strategic approach to open up coaching opportunities, development, mentoring and resources for our dedicated female coaches, which isn’t purely about results.”
“An event like our Women’s Leadership Breakfast is the perfect way for our female coaches to know they have a cohort of fellow coaches to network and collaborate with, and bounce ideas off. Having Mel Downer join us to discuss the challenges and opportunities in her coaching career, will also show that coaching is a viable and rewarding career at any level.”
The Women’s Leadership Breakfast is a FREE event for registered Basketball ACT female coaches. However, interested participants will need to RSVP by 12pm Friday 24 May 2024 due to catering requirements.
