REFEREE DEBUT ON THE WNBL
By BACT Media Unit – 8 Nov 2024
Ethan Tulk is set to take center court as he makes his debut in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) this weekend. With an impressive background and dedication to officiating, Tulk joins the elite ranks of officials entrusted to officiate Australia’s premier women’s basketball competition.
Tulk has been officiating in the ACT since 2010 and continues to contribute to the community by educating young referees. Tulk’s refereeing journey to the WNBL has included ACT Junior Referee pathway, Southern Junior League, Country Premier League, National Championships, ACT Senior Premier League, Waratah Senior League, NBL1 East and Basketball Australia National Referee Development Program from 2023 – 2024.
When asked about his goals in refereeing, Tulk responded, “my large goal is re-selection/ reappointment. However, it’s definitely important I take a step back and enjoy this achievement as it’s something I’ve been working towards for a long time”.
Having officiated in state and national competitions Tulk’s ascent to the WNBL is a testament to hard work, dedication and commitment to the game. Upon reflection Tulk provided some words of wisdom to officials within the referee pathway “My advice for aspiring referees would be to put in the work. The difficulty of elite sport is less about what people see and more about the hard work put in behind the scenes. Keep working hard away from the court and the skills will translate to your game performance”.
Catch Tulk’s debut this evening at the AIS Arena as he officiates the matchup between UC Capitals and Bendgio Spirit. Fans are invited to attend the game and show their support for this exciting new addition to the WNBL officiating roster.
We look forward to watching Tulk’s debut and wish him all the best throughout the WNBL season.
